The bridge carrying Route 124, Abels Road, over Cabin Creek in Lower Windsor Township, York County, will close on Tuesday, September 26, for barrier improvements.
Due to the nature of the barrier modifications, the bridge is anticipated to be closed for 10 days. During this time, motorists will travel along a detour using Route 624 (Long Level Road), Route 462 (Lincoln Highway), Cool Creek Road, Nursery Road, and Main Street.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
As part of the work, crews will modify the existing bridge barriers and make additional safety improvements.
The Abels Road bridge was replaced in December 2016 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
This bridge is referred to as JV-296 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
