July 18, 2016

A bridge project (JV-133) in Tioga County is officially complete as a polyester polymer concrete (PPC) was recently applied to the bridge deck. This was the final step in the Route 4017 bridge project. The bridge was closed for reconstruction in late August 2015 while the work was performed by Glenn O. Hawbaker, a State College, PA based company.

The PPC overlay is designed to protect the deck from the wear and tear brought about by Pennsylvania’s harsh winters, and reduce the long-term maintenance costs.

The polyester material can only be applied when temperatures are regularly above 50 degrees and after the bridge concrete has cured for at least 30 days.
