The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project has reopened four bridges in Westmoreland County over the past week, while another two are nearing completion by the end of the month.
The recently completed crossings were:
1. The Slate Run Road (SR 2013) crossing over Slate Creek in Hempfield Township (JV556). The original bridge was constructed in 1934 and carried about 4,600 vehicles per day. The work was performed by Clearwater Construction Company.
2. The Athena Drive (SR 1034) crossing over Beaver Run in Salem Township (JV554). The original bridge was built in 1910 and carried 726 vehicles per day. The work there was performed by Walsh Granite Construction.
3. The SR 259 crossing over Coalpit Run (JV544). The original bridge, constructed in 1950, carried 665 vehicles per day. The work was performed by CH&D Construction Company.
4. The Wilpen Road (SR 1017) crossing over Mill Creek (JV552). The original bridge was built in 1928 and carried 575 vehicles per day. The work there was performed by Allison Park Construction Company.
A total of eight bridges were scheduled for completion in Westmoreland County in 2015. Six have now reopened and the last two are scheduled for completion soon. Twelve Westmoreland County bridges will also be replaced in 2016 and 2017.
