July 11, 2017
Construction for the Wilpen Road (Route 1017) bridge, spanning Branch of Hannas Run in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Westmoreland County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of July 24 and be complete in late August. During this time, Wilpen Road (Route 1017) and Marietta Road (Route 1019) will be closed.
The detour for the Wilpen Road (Route 1017) closure will be implemented along Route 711 (Ligonier Street). The detour for the Marietta Road (Route 1019) closure will be implemented along Route 259 (Chrisner
Road), US 30 (Lincoln Highway) and Route 711 (Ligonier Street).
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-553 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
