Construction for the Route 136 bridge, spanning Branch of Little Sewickley Creek in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Westmoreland County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of July 9. At which time traffic will be directed by intermittent flagging until July 14 when the bridge will close to traffic. Construction is expected to be complete in late July. During construction, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Edna Road (Route 3077), Route 30 (Lincoln Highway), Arona Road (Route 3071), Wendell Hermine Road (Route 3069) and Evanston Road (Route 3018).
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-543 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
