Construction for the Route 1012 (Ritchey Bridge Road) bridge, spanning Raystown Branch Juniata River in West Providence Township, Bedford County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Bedford County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of August 28. During this time, crews will be working on pre-construction activities and preparing for the long term traffic control to be installed. Drivers may encounter short-term flagging operation during this process.
As construction progresses drivers will encounter an alternating traffic pattern controlled by temporary traffic signals followed by a five-week detour to incorporate the new bridge to the existing road. Future updates on the detour will be released prior to implementation. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2018.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-316 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
