July 02, 2018
Construction for a bridge carrying Race Street over Catasauqua Creek in Catasauqua Borough, Lehigh County, is scheduled to begin during the week of July 16 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Lehigh County.
During the full replacement of the bridge, traffic traveling westbound on Race Street will follow one lane of traffic through the work zone. The bridge will be closed to eastbound traffic. Motorists traveling east along Race Street will follow a detour along Lehigh Street, North Dauphin Street, North Irving Street, American Parkway and Airport Road. The bridge is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2018.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-176 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
