Construction for the Center Road (Route 4008) bridge, spanning Back Creek in Lower Mifflin Township, Cumberland County, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Cumberland County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of October 9 and be complete in late December. During this time, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Route 233 (Doubling Gap Road) and Route 997 (Roxbury Road). Conifer Road, a Township Road where the bridge intersects with Center Road will be closed during construction. Local residents located on Conifer Road will follow an additional detour along Middle Road and Asper Road back to Center Road or Middle Road and Route 997 to Center Road.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-244 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
