Construction for the bridge carrying Route 696 (Turnpike Road) over Newburg Creek in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, is scheduled to begin August 12 as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
When full replacement of the bridge begins, vehicular traffic will be directed to follow a detour along Route 997 (Enola Road), Three Square Hollow Road (State Route 4005) and Route 641 (Newburg Road). Tractor-trailers will follow a designated truck detour along Route 997 (Enola Road) and Route 641 (Newburg Road). The bridge should be complete in late August.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-569 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
