July 30, 2018
Construction for the bridge carrying Race Street over Catasauqua Creek in Catasauqua Borough, Lehigh County, has been rescheduled to begin on Monday, August 6. The bridge had been scheduled to close for construction on Monday, July 30, as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.
During the full replacement of the bridge, traffic traveling westbound on Race Street will follow one lane of traffic through the work zone. The bridge will be closed to eastbound traffic. Motorists traveling east along Race Street will follow a detour along Lehigh Street, North Dauphin Street, North Irving Street, American Parkway and Airport Road. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2018.
In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may still change.
This bridge is referred to as JV-176 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
