Construction is starting up again in Schuylkill County, with the replacement of the Little Mountain Road (PA 4036) bridge in Union Township (JV-209). Construction is scheduled to begin the week of April 25, with traffic detoured to Mountain Road, PA 42 and Aristes Road. The work is expected to be complete in May, and will be performed by Doli Construction. The crossing was built in 1940 and averages 320 vehicles a day.

Construction crews also reopened the PA 924 bridge over Kehly Run (JV-207) in Shenandoah Borough yesterday, after installing a steel plate to cover a hole on the bridge deck. The bridge has been under construction for several weeks with traffic restricted to a single lane. Crews discovered the hole early on Monday morning and closed the bridge, with traffic rerouted to a temporary detour.

Crews will close the bridge again on Thursday and Friday evening, April 14 and 15, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to perform additional repair work from underneath the bridge. During investigations of the bridge’s condition, structural engineers determined that it would not be safe for construction workers to work from underneath the bridge while traffic was overhead.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers to the detour during the nighttime repair work, with traffic rerouted to PA 54 and Gilberton Road. The Gold Start bridge was built in 1949 and averages about 5,500 vehicles a day. Work is scheduled to be complete in the early fall and is being performed by Walsh-Granite Construction.
