The Route 523 (Listonburg Road) bridge that’s been under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project has opened to traffic. The bridge spans a tributary to Whites Creek in Addison Township. Replacing the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from Somerset County’s structurally deficient list.
Construction started in June and was complete on September 2. The work was performed by Beech Construction, Inc. The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-349 out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
