The Route 17 (Sunbury Street) bridge, which spans an unnamed tributary to Susquehanna River in Liverpool Borough, Perry County, that’s been under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is complete and open to traffic.
The new bridge opened to traffic at around 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 30. Replacement work was performed by C.H.& D. Enterprises of Westmoreland, PA.
The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-287 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
