The Melcroft Road (Route 1050) bridge, which spans Champion Creek in Saltlick Township, Fayette County, that’s been under construction as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, is complete and open to traffic. Replacement of the bridge allows PennDOT to remove it from Fayette County’s structurally deficient bridge list.
The bridge reopened to traffic on Thursday, April 26. Replacement work was performed by Mele & Mele & Sons, Inc. of Braddock, PA.
The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-494 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
